1899: The Holy Spirit Fathers, coming from Zanzibar, found the St. Austin Mission in Nairobi.
1901: The Italian priest Giuseppe Allamano (1851-1926), rector of the Consolata Shrine in Turin, founds the Consolata Missionary Institute. The Protestant Africa Inland Mission establishes a mission among the Kikuyu in Icijabe.
1902: The first Consolata missionaries arrive among the Kikuyu in Tuthu, welcomed by the Bishop of Zanzibar, Monsignor Allgeyer of the Congregation of the Holy Spirit.
1904: The Murang’a Conference is held, defining the methodology of the missionary work of the Consolata fathers.
1905: The mission among the Kikuyu becomes an independent mission.
1907: First baptism among the Kikuyu.
1909: Monsignor Filippo Perlo is appointed apostolic vicar of the new vicariate of Nyeri.
1910: Foundation of the Congregation of the Consolata Missionary Sisters.
1923: The constitutions of the new missionary institute are definitively approved by the Congregation of Propaganda Fide.
1926: The founder dies. He is succeeded by Monsignor Filippo Perlo.
